Description |
Visit to Howsham Mill led by Chris Fordington
Forty members enjoyed this trip, which was admirably led by Chris Fordington, treasurer of the trust that now owns the mill. Howsham Mill, probably designed by John Carr, was in a badly decayed state until it was taken over by a group of volunteers. They have re-installed the water wheel and built an Archimedean screw generator into the weir on the river Derwent. Together these now generate sufficient electrical power to supply the local village and create an income which goes towards rebuilding the mill.
