While the annual lecture programme is open to the general public*, we would encourage anyone who is interested in the activities of the Society to give support by joining as a member.  

In addition to providing valuable support, there are a number of benefits which can be gained from membership. Throughout the year, many special events are organised, including: 

• Full and half-day excursions to places of interest in Yorkshire and beyond
• Behind the scenes at the York museums, The University of York and other local venues
• Informal social evenings and gatherings
• The annual formal President's Evening Dinner
• An annual study tour in the UK or overseas

Other benefits to members include:

• Free entry to the Yorkshire Museum
• A copy of the YPS Annual report which includes articles of scientific and historical interest
• Discounts on YPS publications and prints
• Use of the Reading Room at the Lodge
• Invitation to refreshments in the Lodge with the opporunity to meet the speaker and other members after lectures
• Access to YPS online resources 

Since the YPS is affiliated to the Britsh Science Association and acts as the area branch of the Association, members of the Association receive information about the YPS and can attend, free of charge, its lectures.  YPS members can join the British Science Association, free of charge, by completing a membership application form or by applying on-line.  

* Non-members are asked to make a voluntary contribution of £3 at each lecture.
